Mobile robotics

.
Organised in conjunction with the Sant’Anna Post-graduate School and Celin Avio, Oto officially launched and presented its new products by way of a workshop on mobile robotics held at its Gustavo Stefanini Centre.

In addition to numerous journalists from specialist magazines, also actively present were newspaper editors and experts from institutions such as SEGREDIFESA and the Navy.

The workshop saw Oto Melara focus on solutions and future applications with regard to unmanned systems that not only allow for increased safety in hazardous operations - be they civilian or military - but also for the ongoing effectiveness of systems which can have reduced size and would otherwise exert unimaginable stress on the human body.

The participation of the Sant’Anna Post-graduate School addressed the scientific characteristics of   sensoristic solutions and the autonomy of mobile robots which, through interpretation and fusion of data gleaned from the environment, are capable of carrying out reflex movements without operator intervention. Lastly, they highlighted how current research also focuses on the movement of a number of robots managed as a cluster and therefore given a common mission, each one making its contribution based on position and the actuators it has at its disposal.

Celin Avio’s contribution to the workshop, in the person of professor Lombardi from the University of Pisa, highlighted how technology relating to miniaturization of avionics equipment being developed today, allows for the creation of small unmanned flying systems with highly significant endurance and manoeuvre capacities, as was seen in the recent fixed and rotary wing demonstrators, from the HORUS project in particular.

Finally, after collectively answering a series of curiosities and probing questions from all those present, practical demonstrations got underway of the vehicles on show, which naturally provoked interest and even awe in seeing physical behaviour normally unthinkable for a vehicle actually being achieved.
