Euronaval Exhibition

This year, like for the past 10 editions, Oto Melara was present, within the Finmeccanica stand, at the Euronaval Exhibition which took place at the Paris Le Bourget from 27 to 31 October.


Being this fair a leader in the sector of naval defence, a sector where Oto Melara has always been particularly successful and is known worldwide, it seemed to be the perfect occasion and the perfect environment to premier the new 76/62mm STRALES system that represents the most advanced technological innovation, in the field of medium calibre naval guns, now present on the market.


Thanks to the area put at the disposal of its company by Finmeccanica, the presentation of the gun was tremendously efficacious: blinking orange lights connected with an alarm siren, announced to the numerous guests and delegations the opening of the gun shield and the exit of the antenna that, when the gun is in operation, generates a guidance beam capable of directing the new DART (Driven Ammunition with Reduced Time of flight) projectile against the target.


At the same time, on a large screen hanging from the ceiling, a 3D movie with real sounds, portrayed the simulation of a typical mission of the 76/62 gun against multiple manouvering targets (missiles and FIACs), creating for the onlookers the sensation of actually being part of a defence action.
