From the past to the future

On December 11th, the OTO Melara company notified its Historic Archive to the Ministry for Cultural Assets and Activities.
 
The important documents hosted in the archive are evidence of the activity of the company since its establishment back in 1905 by the Vickers Terni Company, and reach up to 1960.
 
This means a long ranging view over the history of the company, contributing to the overall understanding of the vicissitudes, in Italy and abroad, of industrial production of war material.
 
Thanks to this deed, the archive obtains full recognition by the ministry as being of “especially important historical interest”, and the company engages to preserve, order and file the large collection of documents it owns. The ceremony of notification took place  before the Managing Director of the Company, Eng. Carlo Alberto Iardella, and the Officer of the Superintendancy for Archive Assets of Liguria, Graziano Tonelli.
 
The notification took place in the context of a day dedicated to the theme “From the Past to the Future”. Besides the attention to historic assets, this was the occasion for rewarding the projects of the “Innovation Award” which each measures the results of the creativeness of process and product initiatives by the company employees who take part in this exciting challenge.
 
Finmeccanica, which is the Italian group with the highest content of technological products, launched on the global scene, has long been making research, technology and innovation associated with the Company and Group strategies its winning feature on the marketplace, as well as the foundation for developing value. This is why Finmeccanica, in 2004, established the “Innovation Award” which each year measures the  value of the results of the creativeness of process and product initiatives by those who take part in this exciting challenge.
 
Proposals are developed autonomously by the employees and notified directly to the Finmeccanica selection committee, consisting of well known university professors and the top of the Finmeccanica technical management.
 
Three projects from Oto Melara won awards:

• Continuous loading system for the 127/64mm cannon
• Nbcr control via a robot system for ports, ships and containers
• A study for increasing industrial competitiveness.
