Oto Melara at Eurosatory 2010

Oto Melara attended Eurosatory 2010, held in Paris form the 14^th to 18^th of June. The Show is considered a fundamental occasion for the land defence market and this year as well has confirmed its strategic importance reaching 1330 expositors, 10% more than 2008 despite the actual economic crisis.


Oto Melara has confirmed the strong interest for the show counting 3 different locations: a 1550 mq external area  shared with IVECO and CIO, a second presence in Finmeccanica’s booth and the presence of the subsidiary Oto Melara Ibérica exhibiting  the HITROLE ® 12,7mm Turret in the Spanish Pavilion.


Two Consortium vehicles were located in the external area: the VMB Freccia with the 25mm HITFIST® turret, recently adopted by the Italian Army and the Infantry Fighting Vehicle DARDO complete with ballistic protections and the 30mm OWS Turret (Overhead Weapon Station). The 12,7 mm HITROLE® LIGHT remote operated turret, that will soon be in service with the troops in Afghanistan, was mounted on an Italian Army Lince vehicle. During the exhibition the new multirole DRACO system was officially unveiled in the presence of a substantial group of journalists and Gen. Biagio Abrate, General Secretary of Defence and National Armament Director: the DRACO is a multi-role land-based mount designed around the unrivalled 76/62 Super Rapid Strales naval gun, specialized in air defence and capable of C-RAM (counter-rocket artillery mortar) role and ground combat for different operational employment.


Among the official delegations that visited Oto Melara’s chalet it is worth mentioning Gen. Vincenzo Camporini, Defence Chief of Staff, Gen. Giuseppe Valotto, Army Chief of Staff and Gen. Antonio Gucciardino, Director of Land Armaments. Also several international delegations came to visit our area, among them the USA National Armament Director, Spain, Canada, Oman, Poland.
